In 2015 at the Strategic Planning Meeting, the NMASBO Board of Director’s created a philanthropic voice for the School Business profession through a Community Social Responsibility program. This initiative was implemented in order to bring awareness to the profession, the great State of New Mexico and how NMASBO’s members supports children beyond public education.
The Children’s Hope Foundation
NMASBO’s Board of Directors has selected donating to the Children’s Hope Foundation as our fourth Community Social Campaign. The Children’s Hope Foundation helps children and their families cope with the emotional and financial needs of living with and fighting childhood diseases by providing funding for life saving access to medical care. It starts with one child…Everyday, in moments of crisis, The Children’s Hope Foundation is committed to the well being of the children in the communities we serve. We were established in 2009 to provide financial assistance to one little boy’s family while he underwent treatment for cancer. Today the foundation has expanded its mission to provide healthy beginnings, growth opportunities and crisis intervention for families with children who are not only fighting cancer, but also heart disease and birth defects. We have seen great success with our Community Social Responsibility Campaigns; to date we have raised around $1,100 for the Children’s Hope Foundation at the 2018 Fall Conference!
Ronald McDonald House Charities of New Mexico
NMASBO’s Board of Directors has selected donating to Ronald McDonald House Charities of New Mexico as our third Community Social Campaign. The Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) mission is: “Keeping families with sick children close to each other and the care and resources they need.” Helping a sick child fight an illness takes a big enough emotional toll on a family. Adding a financial strain can make it all almost too much to bear. RMHC can help address those problems, whether they involve housing near a hospitalized child, the expense of staying together in another city, or even getting basic medical and dental care in a vulnerable community. NMSBO and our members raised $3,300 for RMHC at Fall & Winter Conference during the FY 17/18!
Make-A-Wish New Mexico
NMASBO’s Board of Directors has selected donating to Make-A-Wish Foundation of New Mexico as our second Community Social Campaign. This organization has a special connection to us because it has personally touched the life of one of our business managers. The NMASBO Board was honored when Kimberly Stone, Capitan Municipal Schools, shared her son Eleck and her family’s story with not only us, but the entire NMASBO Community. Kimberly’ son was granted a wish in March of 2015. It was something that changed his life and her entire family’s. Make-A-Wish Foundation of NM is able to spend 92% of all proceeds on wishes! We are extremely excited to support Make-A-Wish Foundation of NM during the 2016-2017 fiscal year and during their 30th year campaign! We know we can count on our membership to help this organization with its very simple mission; to make a wish happen. NAMSBO sponsored Rhea’s Wish to go to Walt Disny World and the check presentation was presented to Rhea and her mother at the 2017 Spring Budget Workshop. NAMSBO’s members raised $5000 for Rhea, who suffers from hemophilia.
KOATS for Kids
At the 2016 Winter Conference in Albuquerque, the NMASBO chose to support KOATS for Kids as our second Community Social Responsibility campaign initiative. Again, we encouraged members to bring new or gently used coats to the conference and we also collected cash donations. We were able to collect about 15 used and new coats and raised nearly $500. The NMASBO Board of Directors chose to match the donations received from the membership and exhibitors, bringing the total money raised to $1,000.00!
Las Cruces Coats for Kids
At the 2015 Fall Conference in Las Cruces, NMASBO chose to support Las Cruces Coats for Kids as our first Community Social Responsibility campaign initiative. We encouraged members to bring new or gently used coats to the conference and we also collected cash donations. We were able to collect about 30 used and new coats and raised nearly $750. The NMASBO Board of Directors chose to match the donations received from the membership and exhibitors, bringing the total money raised to $1,519.32! For every $10 raised they are able to provide a coat. That means our contribution to the Las Cruces Coats for Kids program provided approximately 180 coats for children in the Doña Ana County area a very impressive start for our inaugural Social Responsibility Campaign!
